Creating a Different Type of 'First Friday' Art Show
This August Akela Collective designed and executed a temporary photo exhibit and portrait event. The exhibit consisted of eight artists presenting eight photographs each, showcasing the cohesion and versatility between different photographers living in the age of social media. The event titled The Pop-Up featured Polaroid portraits captured of exhibit attendees, allowing each guest to leave with both a portrait in hand and on the wall, creating a living display that changes throughout the evening. Design, production, and promotion was managed in house with support coming from the Anchorage Museum and The Fifth Avenue Mall. During the single night event hundreds of fine art prints were sold and four hundred instant-style film images were made.
