Creating a Different Type of 'First Friday' Art Show

The August Akela Collective design and executed a temporary photo exhibit and portrait event in the Anchorage Fifth Avenue Mall. The exhibit consisted of eight artists presenting eight photographs each, showcasing cohesion and versatility between different photographers living in the age of social media. The event titled The Pop-Up, featured Polaroid portraits captured of exhibit attendees, allowing each guest to leave with both a portrait in hand and hanging on the wall, creating a living display that changed throughout the evening. Design, production and promotion were managed in-house with support coming from the Anchorage Museum and the Fifth Avenue Mall. During the single night event hundreds of fine art photographic prints were sold and four hundred instant-style film images were made.
